Founded in 1851, Northwestern University is a private research university located in Evanston, Illinois. Originally affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church, it was chartered by the Illinois General Assembly in 1951. Northwestern offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses through its 12 schools and colleges.

The university is home to more than 21,000 students across its three campuses, with over 500 student organizations and 19 intercollegiate athletic teams.
